Ready for Adventure: Exploring Montana with 5 boys and the FUJIFILM X-T100

This summer, our family packed the car and headed on a road trip to the beautiful mountains of Montana. I was beyond excited for the opportunity to try out the FUJIFILM X-T100 for the entire trip. I was so eager to capture all of our amazing adventures. And as a mom of five boys, I have learned to roll with whatever comes our way.

The first day of visiting the mountains was incredible. The weather was sunny but cool, our cabin was old and full of character, and we managed to go on a hike with breathtaking views.

On our hike, I had the very lightweight X-T100 around my neck and shoulder for easy access. We hiked for about four hours altogether and it was such a breeze to carry around.

For photos of the gorgeous vistas surrounding me, I set the camera to landscape mode and was so impressed with the results. I didn’t have too much time to change camera settings while I was huffing and puffing my way up the mountain, and landscape mode performed beautifully. I loved the panorama feature and was amazed at how well the pictures came out. This camera also has a three-way touchscreen, which made going through the menu and reviewing images so easy.

Throughout our travels, I fell in love with how easy the X-T100 is to use, how lightweight and portable it is, and how well it performs in the field.

I loved the ability to change lenses to get different perspectives. For the landscape shots, I used the FUJINON XC15-45mm F3.5-5.6 OIS PZ lens for a wider view to capture the environment. For all the other images on my trip, I used the FUJINON XF 23mm F1.4 R lens, as it gave me the ability to shoot at a low aperture, which I love. The images came out crisp and in focus, even at very shallow depths of field.

One of our stops on the way home was at Lake Coeur d’Alene in Idaho where I shot in bright, midday sun. For these images, I wanted to test portrait mode and had the camera set to autofocus. Portrait mode really impressed me with its vibrant colors and lifelike skin tones. It handled the bright sun like a champ and had impressive dynamic range.

Once we got back home, I wanted one more excuse to shoot outdoors with the X-T100. I took two of my boys berry picking at a local farm and the X-T100 proved again that it is a fantastic camera. Not only did I capture moments of my boys that tug at my heart, I was able to take video as well. The video quality is amazing, and compared to some other cameras I have used, it was really easy to figure out and use.

For the images below, I shot in manual mode with an ISO of 400 because the sun was going down. I kept my aperture set to f/1.4 to f/2.8 to keep my background out of focus. My shutter speed ranged from 1/600 to 1/1200 depending the intensity of the light where I was shooting. I generally shoot with a fast shutter to keep my wiggly boys in focus.

I got to capture real moments that I will cherish forever thanks to the X-T100. The FUJIFILM X-T100 is at the top of my wish list! The short amount of time I had to play with it was just not enough. I will use this camera not only on vacations, but also to capture everyday adventures with my family.
