Fall is warm and rich. Winter is dark and grey. Spring is bright and pastel. And summer is colorful and full of life! Bring your summer sessions to life with bright and colorful props and session starters. Check out these fun ideas to jumpstart your summer session planning.

1. Parachute

Have a family session with young children? Bring a colorful parachute along for something fun for the family to do together. Smiles and laughter are sure to follow! $30

2. Balloons and Tassels

Perfect for a cake smash session or engagement session, big colorful balloons and tassels make great props to have in the background, or bring them front and center for interaction and playfulness. $30

3. Umbrella

Be the cool mom and actually let your kids play in the rain with this rainbow umbrella. Your kids will be ecstatic and you’ll get pictures full of joy and laughter. $35

4. Papel Picado Bunting

Mexican tissue paper banners and bunting (papel picado) are a great way to add a fun and festive element to your sessions. Handcrafters can even customize the bunting with names and dates or custom color combinations to put a personal spin on your session. $48

5. Maxi Skirt/Dress

Maxi skirts and dresses can be very flattering to expecting moms. Bright colors combined with a monochromatic background will bring the focus exactly where it should be… the glowing mom-to-be and belly. $50

6. Holi Powder

Kids love holi powder so this is a great idea for family sessions. Have the clients wear white clothing so the holi powder shows up as much as possible. Don’t get too close to the action, or make sure your lenses and camera are protected from flying powder. Starting at $20

7. Graffiti Wall

Graffiti walls are just creative and cool. If you’re lucky enough to have a graffiti wall in your area, definitely consider having a session there. Have your clients wear neutral, monochromatic clothing so they don’t compete with the paint colors. Also, when scouting the location, make sure there aren’t profanities or vulgar images on the wall.

8. Quilt/Blanket

One of the easiest ways to add color to your session is with a quilt or blanket to sit on or wrap up in. Whether it’s a family heirloom, handmade treasure, or a new local find, bolder is better. $65
