Tripods: The perfect summer accessory

tripods for photographers

Summer is my favorite season and the warmer weather always inspires me to get creative. I typically do not use a tripod in my every day shooting but in the warmer months, I love to use a one because it forces me to slow down and really think about what I am capturing. Using a tripod also comes in handy when I need to keep my hands free for family portraits. Sometimes when I am working with toddlers they often need a little extra help looking at me, and a tripod lets me step out from behind the camera to engage my subject.

So whether you are photographing families, summer sunsets, fireworks, long exposure, macro or landscape images, a great tripod is a must have. Having the ability to be close to the ground or place the camera where you can’t reach can really stretch your creativity and open up additional photo options that are not available without one. Here are my three favorite brands of tripods, all which offer lots of great options.

1. Manfrotto

The Manfrotto brand immediately comes to mind when I think of tripods because I own a couple of their light stands. Manfrotto is known for their innovative, high quality and sturdy designs. Some of the features offered are aluminum and carbon fiber builds, ultra light casting, great stability, ground level system, carbon fiber tubes and smart friction control for the column. Available in pocket size to full sized tripods, the options are endless. Starting at $19.99

2. MeFOTO

MeFOTO tripods are perfect for the photographer seeking a lightweight, portable tripod that can be used anywhere. With four different models to choose from, you can pick the perfect one for your camera and photography needs. Depending on the model you choose, some of the features include 360 degree panning, multiple leg angle positions, bubble level, recessed center-column hook, separate head and pan lock and a dual action ballhead with a quick release plate. The RoadTrip model also offers a build your own color combo version which lets you choose your favorite colors. I love that you can put your own personal stamp on your tripod! I personally adore the rich gold color option, so that is what I would choose. Each tripod comes with a carrying bag. Starting at $99

3. Vanguard

With a large selection of highly rated tripods, Vanguard has options for every type of camera. Known for being well built and very solid, Vanguard tripods come with a multitude of features that will help you get the shots you are after. Many of the tripods have adjustable leg angles, an anti-spin central column, heavy loading weight, an anti-shock rubber ring on the central column, a long handle and thick foam on the legs for a secure grip. From tabletop tripods to full sized heavy duty tripods, there is a great selection for the size you need. Each tripod comes with its own carrying bag. Starting at $29.99
