For the March/April 2019 Click Magazine photo contest, we asked for your best “togetherness” photos. A huge congratulations to our winner, Bree Friesen, Rocky Mountain House, Alberta, Canada for the image, “Refuge” (above). And a big thank you to our accomplished judges, Click Pros Jyotsna Bhamidipati and Sarah Gupta.
Because our judges are so amazing, and because we always love to give you a peek behind the scenes, we’re sharing why Jyotsna and Sarah loved these particular images best. Read on to get inside their heads…
Q: What drew you to the winning image, “Refuge” by Bree Friesen (above)?
Jyotsna: Connection, to me, is absolutely everything in a photograph. The tight embrace between the mother and the child is something that always connects with me. The wind and the movement that came with it also added to the mood of the image. I absolutely adored this faceless shot!
Sarah: What drew me to this moment was the intimate crop between a mother and her child. I love how the light wraps itself around their warm embrace and invites the viewer to be a part of the moment.
Second Place

“Hug”

Gear and settings: Canon EOS 5D Mark III + EF 100mm f/2.8L Macro IS USM lens; f/4.0, 1/640, ISO 250

Q: What did you love about this photo?
Jyotsna: This one caught my attention right away. Capturing a macro shot of two snails “hugging” is truly extraordinary! The light reflecting off them is just beautiful as well.
Sarah: The beautiful warm light and how the bodies of the slugs are enveloped around each other give this otherwise ordinary subject a human connection. I also love how the subjects are captured against a dark background that lends depth and allows them to pop.
Third Place
Erika Reiner
“So This Is Love”

Gear and settings: Nikon D750 + Sigma 18mm-35mm f/1.8 Art lens; f/1.8, 1/600, ISO 100

Q: What did you love about this photo?
Jyotsna: This faceless image is absolutely gorgeous! The viewer’s eyes lead straight to the hands touching and the tones are just beautiful.
Sarah: I adore how a simple capture of entwined hands is elevated by the beautiful light and crop. I was also captivated by how just a few fingers drawn together, and not the whole hand, makes this photograph more intimate.
Pssst… When you’re finished looking at this gorgeous eye candy, we hope you’ll go enter the current photo contest (winners are published in Click Magazine!). You can find the theme and details here.
Love it? Go ahead and pin it!
